DOUGLAS WHITE
Douglas White collection for Each x Other sees Douglas’s fire based work take a new shape through clothing. Here, the artist’s “destroyed” material sculptures – pieces made of blown-out tyres and charred wood - are born anew, a violent natural force reined in and made wearable. Over-dyed denim and pulled leather fringing sit alongside burnt fabric and a fiery colour palette to reflect the aesthetic of Douglas’s artistic practice, showing us that what one may call destruction is, by another name, pure creation. British artist Douglas white’s work is based upon the idea of retrieval and reconstitution – by using blown-out tires and burnt wood as the base materials for his art, Douglas shows that destruction can often lead to creation. Violent forces such as fire and lightning are reigned in and harnessed, generating new sculptural forms and showing us the true potential of transformation. x
