ANN GRIM

The Ann Grim collection is strongly inspired by the designer’s work with shark jaws, which she suspends in the middle of an outside framework, mirroring our own entrapment in a consumerist culture. Interwoven, almost braid-like material on cuffs, shirt backs and coat sleeves emulates the intricate form of the jaw and teeth, while interconnecting lines bisecting jeans and t-shirts recall the leather and suede cords Ann uses to ensnare the sharks. Redand black are the only colours present, as is often the case in Ann’s own designs. Takes us beyond the unknown and into the water, through twenty thousand leagues of mystery and intrigue. Ann’s on-going fascination with the shark is at the core of this collection – pleated silk recalls the animal’s skin and gills while the colour palette is reminiscent of the ocean at large. However, Ann also questions our own relationship with this creature, with geometric patterns, structural forms and chainmail detailing mirroring the cages we use to contain nature’s greatest predator. x
